How to spend 24 Hours on a Greek Ferry with a Luxury Cabin. Thessaloniki to Patmos with Blue Star Ferries
Welcome to our Greek Ferry Luxury cabin tour! Our adventure starts from Thessaloniki to Kavala, to Patmos, Greece in the Dodecanese Islands.
We took a bus from Thessaloniki, Greece to Kavala, Greece, which took about two hours. From there we caught a 24-hour ferry to Patmos, Greece in the Dodecanese Islands. Our ferry was with Blue Star Ferries on the ship called Diagoras. Because we were spending so long on the ship we decided to book a Lux Cabin Berth. We were comfortable and we did enjoy various decks, outdoor areas, cafes and restaurants.
Luxury cabin tour
Since we were on a 24-hour ferry, we booked a luxury berth to be more comfortable. The luxury berth has a closet, TV and a desk area that has two chargers. There is also a fridge so you can bring your own drinks and snacks. The cabin has a little seating area and a little table. The bed is a queen size, quite roomy but not the most comfortable bed. This berth had its own bathroom which was really great so we would not have to share a bathroom with anyone on this 24-hour ferry. The bathroom has a toilet, sink, a hairdryer and a shower. Moreover, they provide all the bed sheets and towels. The cabin has a window even though it is not the best view it’s nice to have.
Types of accommodation
If you are thinking of booking a Blue Star Ferries you should know that there are various types of accommodation. For instance, there is a single bed berth which is two beds so you may share the room with someone else. A lux berth bed is for couples (or two people ) who are sharing a berth together. Lux double bed is the one we booked. Which is a double bed and we did not share it with anybody else. We should also mention that the berths have air conditioning which is nice and cool. In addition, you can purchase wifi onboard as we did. The connection worked pretty well the entire trip, it was relatively fast. When booking your accommodation be aware that “In” means inside with no window and “Out” means you’ll have a window.
Greece ferries
One of the coolest things about these ferries in Greece is that it stops at multiple islands. Especially, when it is a 24-hour ferry. It did stop once already in Chios which is just off the coast of Turkey. All the scenery was beautiful and there were mountains everywhere. The ferry was great because we were not just in the middle of the ocean but we got to constantly see different islands. That was really entertaining. If you are just getting a regular seat on the ferry, you are gonna be in a non-smoking area. You can enjoy your seat or hang out in some of the common bar and cafe areas where there are bigger couches. Concerning the prices, it was over 200 euros for both of us including the room and the tickets. The food and drinks are not included.
Cafes and Restaurants
There are a few restaurants and cafes outside and inside as well. On the inside, there is a row of a sit-down restaurants and also a restaurant where you can self-service. We decided to get two Fredo cappuccinos which is one of our favourite Greek coffee drinks. Basically, you can get almost anything you want. There are all types of coffee, beer, snacks and sandwiches. The prices are really reasonable. For lunch, we got a couple of sandwiches and a Greek beer. The total price for each was about 15 euros. In general we’d say the prices are pretty good considering being on a ferry.

Blue Star Ferries full service dinner
We started our dinner off with a Greek salad. The salad had capers and olive oil on top which added deliciousness to it. Then, for our appetizer, we had a tasty dish which was feta cheese wrapped up in phyllo. The texture was interesting. It also had a bit of sauce with sesame seeds on top. The sauce was like caramel but a little bit sweet. The dish was crunchy, savoury and salty. The main course was grilled chicken with some thyme and sauce. The dish also came with fried potatoes that looks like Hickory sticks. The accompaniments of the dish were some fries, pickled vegetables and mashed potatoes. The chicken was delicious and the sauce was nice and light. All in all, The Bleu Star Ferries dinner was lovely.
